Chapter 68 : Nights are more Dangerous...
The cool night air greeted him, and he glanced up, noticing the moon high in the sky. Though it was night, his powerful eyesight made everything as clear as day.
The sharpness of his vision could easily distinguish every detail in the darkness, but the presence of the moon, unmistakably different from the sun, was the only clear indication that it was nighttime.
As he scanned his surroundings, his attention was drawn to a pair of glowing eyes watching him from the branch of a nearby tree. The eyes, shining like twin embers, were predatory and calculating. Leon\'s gaze sharpened as he focused on the creature.
A black panther emerged from the shadows, its sleek, muscular body rippling with every movement. Its coat was so dark it seemed to absorb the light around it, enhancing the eerie glow of its eyes.
Leon\'s eyes met the beast\'s, and the panther seemed surprised that Leon could see it so clearly. Accustomed to hunting in the dark where its prey lost their sense of sight, the panther was unsettled by Leon\'s unwavering gaze.
Despite the shiver coursing through its body, the panther had already made up its mind—Leon was its prey. Leon scoffed, his mood still sour from the dungeon. The panther had blocked his only way out, only intensifying his annoyance.
He walked forward calmly, fully aware of the panther\'s plan to ambush him from above, after all that\'s the natural behavior of a panther which was technically a black-furred leopard.
Leon\'s heart burned with rage, the rage a remnant feeling of weakness from his previous experience in the dungeon, the rage was still there and was burning strong leaving little room for fear.
The panther, undeterred by Leon\'s ability to see it, remained poised for attack. Leon could sense the tension, knowing the beast intended to follow through with its ambush.
Scoffing inwardly, he continued walking, his senses focused above him.
But as he passed beneath the branch, he didn\'t hear the anticipated swoosh of the panther leaping to pounce. Confusion flickered in his mind. \'Did it decide to let me pass? Has it canceled me out as its prey?\'
Suddenly, his intuition tinged with alarm.
The danger wasn\'t from above as expected but below!
"Damnit!" Leon cursed, leaping backward as his katana appeared in his hand.
From the shadow of the tree on the ground, a paw emerged, slashing viciously at him. Leon acted instinctively, slashing at the claw and injuring the panther\'s paw.
He then heard a growl of pain from above.
\'The panther was there the entire time?! So it can attack me from the shadows, it attacked me directly from that distance by connecting to the shadows!\' he realized.
The panther growled in pain, and Leon watched as it limped away, jumping from branch to branch, blood trickling from its wound. The realization of the panther\'s abilities gave him pause, but his determination remained unshaken.
\'Typical wild cat behavior. I guess there\'s not much difference between wild cats on Earth and those in this world,\' Leon mused as he watched the panther make its retreat, a smirk playing on his lips. The encounter lightened his mood a bit, bringing back memories of his past.
Back on Earth before he got transmigrated to this world, Leon had been an avid viewer of clips, videos, and articles about wild cats and other animals. He knew their behaviors well, which had helped him predict the panther\'s ambush from above. However, the creature\'s unique skills had made it deviate from the typical patterns Leon expected.
the beasts strength wasn\'t to be underestimated it was a high mutant ranked beast, but despite the panther\'s impressive strength, Leon\'s physical prowess had grown significantly even though he\'s still at the first realm of cultivation, his physical strength was his main advantage with it and his cultivation base he could now match against mutants, beasts at that rank could give those one and two realms higher than him a hard time.
but anyways, his strength wasn\'t the only thing, his intuition had rendered the beast\'s sneak attack futile. He sighed, deciding not to chase after the wounded animal. It wasn\'t worth his time.
Leon continued his journey, his silver hair catching what little light there was in the dark forest. He walked casually, hands in his pockets, his spatial bag hanging stylishly at his side. Despite the thick darkness, he moved as if he could see everything clearly, his enhanced vision turning night into day.
The cries of nocturnal animals filled the air, adding an eerie soundtrack to his trek. Soon, he reached an open area, littered with the corpses of bandit monkeys. He sighed, remembering the fierce battle from earlier that day.
"Weird the corpse haven\'t been eaten by the wild beasts if the area" he muttered, shaking his head.
The sight of the bandit monkeys corpse brought back vivid memories of the encounter. Sighing he pressed his way forward.
As he moved past the fallen monkeys, he couldn\'t help but think about the series of events that had unfolded.
The dungeon, the mysterious physical forms of his system, the Goddess of Souls—everything was pushing him toward a singular goal: strength. The flame of determination in his heart burned brighter than ever.
Lost in thought, Leon barely noticed the forest thinning out.
He emerged into a clearing, the moon hanging high in the sky. Its silvery light bathed the landscape in a serene glow. Leon took a deep breath, the cool night air refreshing after the stifling tension of the dungeon and the panther encounter.
"Time to get back," he said to himself, setting his sights on the path ahead. His journey was far from over.
But then he paused, his alert eyes studying the area around him. He heard movements and a crunching noise, confusing yet distinct, like cracked ice scraping against stone. Along with that was the sound of movement of multiple legs. From the sound, Leon guessed the creature was slow, but he still couldn\'t see it.
His senses were on high alert as he walked forward cautiously. After his encounter with the shadow panther, Leon dared not be complacent. his previous encounter with the bandit monkeys had made him underestimate the beasts of this area, but his encounter with the panther had restored his cautiousness. His katana was already in his hands.
He wanted to reach the estate as soon as possible; Amelia must be waiting. Any fight with a beast would delay his return, and that wasn\'t what he wanted.
The crunching noise grew louder, accompanied by a scraping sound that sent chills down his spine. Leon scanned his surroundings, his eyes narrowing as he tried to pinpoint the source. His gaze fell upon a patch of disturbed earth a few meters ahead. The ground bulged and shifted as if something massive was moving beneath it.
Suddenly, the ground split open, and a gigantic centipede emerged, its body coiling and writhing as it pulled itself from the earth. The centipede\'s movement produced a harsh, grating noise, like the grinding of ancient stones deep within the earth.
Each step brought forth a sound reminiscent of metal chains being dragged over jagged rocks, creating a cacophony of scraping and grinding that heralded its monstrous approach. It was the sound of cracked ice scraping against stone, a spine-tingling crunch that echoed through the cavern.
Leon\'s frustration grew, he can\'t afford to waste any time here. The centipede\'s beady eyes were on him, blocking his path. It looked like a direct confrontation couldn\'t be avoided.
His face was grim. The centipede wouldn\'t be an easy opponent. He now realized how dangerous this place was at night.
During the day, his only encounter had been with the bandit monkeys. But at night, he had already faced two different types of creatures, both out for blood, not loot like the bandit monkeys, making them far more dangerous.
Leon tightened his grip on his katana, his eyes narrowing. He assessed the centipede\'s movements, noting the rhythmic pattern of its legs and the way it emerged from the ground. The creature was massive, its segmented body glistening in the dim light. Each segment was armored, giving it an almost invincible appearance.
Leon was glad for his night vision, realizing the immense advantage it gave him. Without it, he would have been almost helpless against the Shadow Panther\'s attack, relying solely on his Goblin Intuition skill. Even then, intuition alone might not have been enough to protect him from the panther\'s stealthy assault.
The same held true for the centipede; without his keen night vision, he would have easily fallen prey to its ambush.
\'Damnation,\' Leon thought, clenching the hilt of his katana tightly, ready for the inevitable clash.
Suddenly, the centipede, halfway out of the ground, opened its insectile maw and spewed a colorless, slimy liquid.
\'Poison?!\'
Leon quickly rolled to the side, narrowly avoiding the toxic spray. The centipede stretched its body, lunging at him with surprising speed. It lunged like a coiled snake, but it was still too slow for Leon.
He scoffed, dodging the attack effortlessly.
\'Did it think it can catch me with that?\' he sighed at the lack of challenge, sprinting towards the hole from which the centipede was emerging.
This was his chance. He knew the centipede\'s weakness and there was no need to test it further, it was the tiny line space right in the middle of its thorax.
Without wasting time, he slashed at the middle of two random thorax segments. The centipede wriggled its body, causing Leon\'s attack to miss by a hair\'s breadth.
\'Damnation,\' he cursed again as the centipede curled its body backward, forming a slow, curving defense. Leon had wasted enough time. Within that moment, the centipede had caught up to him.
Leon dodged another attack, plunging his katana into the ground for leverage. He quickly sprang up, taking his katana with him.
The centipede\'s sluggish movement gave him an opportunity. Without wasting time, Leon sprinted towards its head.
