Chapter 276 - 276 Echoes of the Past (1)

“Why would you think that?” Floral asked from her throne without denying it.

“Your detection spell that emulates the Eyes of God, it couldn’t have been developed without the relevant research information,” William said, recalling the spell he’d seen.

The Eyes of God was something even players couldn’t obtain. It was like a developer’s Easter egg or half an official cheat. Without the corresponding research, it was impossible to produce even a low-end version of it.

“Although you’ve always said that the organization called the Blind Sisters is only a sewer rat, you must have obtained information from them through some channels, right? Are you in cahoots with them? Or did you take spoils of war from purging their faction?” William pressed on, not getting a response.

After a moment of silence, Floral stood up from her throne, her magical medium in hand.

“Can I say that you’re interested in the Eighth Holy Spirit’s treasure?”

“No,” William subconsciously replied—it was his to begin with. It didn’t seem right to say that he was interested.

“That’s good. Over the centuries, many people have been obsessed with that treasure, but they’ve all come up empty handed and frustrated. And those who came close to the truth didn’t end well,” Floral warned as she walked down the steps and approached William.

“Does the so-called person who came close to the truth include you?” William asked.

“Of course not. I have a principle, never cause trouble you can’t resolve,” she shook her head and replied.

Really? That I really can’t tell…

William was reminded of the instance when Floral had cast spells at him without any explanation.

But she misinterpreted the change in his expression and reminded him in a friendly tone,

“The only person who has the evidence to find the Eighth Holy Spirit’s treasure at World’s End and return alive is the empire’s founding emperor, Terra Riel. He brought back a bronze crown as evidence of his identity as the Eighth Holy Spirit’s descent.”

Confused, William asked, “But I thought Terra was born wearing the bronze crown?”

Floral’s ice-blue eyes locked onto William like searchlights as she stared at him in silence.

Feeling awkward, William smiled and said, “I guess that saying is pretty stupid.”

“It was necessary for the Blind Sisters to spread that rumor back then to add mystery to Terra’s legend. A heavenly hero is more convincing than a common noble who fought his way to the top. Otherwise, Terra wouldn’t have been able to conquer the entire continent in the chaos of that era,”

Floral explained without mocking him. As she spoke, she walked past William and towards the door.

“Wait, are you saying that the Blind Sisters had publicized Terra’s deeds?” William asked as he followed behind her.

“The first organization to propose the concept of the Eighth Holy Spirit and publicly worship William Kane was the Blind Sisters established by Sibylla. They helped Terra Riel conquer this empire on the faith front. However, after the empire was established, they were slandered and exiled because of the emperor’s compromise with the Holy Spirits Church. Then, the Eighth Order they established was taken over by the Holy Spirits Church.”

“How do you know all this?”

Floral slowly pushed open the heavy iron door with her slender wrist and replied to William, “Just as you had guessed, I do have a deep relationship with the Blind Sisters. To put it simply, I have the same partner behind the scenes as them.”

“Erin Riel, the current empress. Thanks to that smartass, I finally understand what she wants. She hopes to follow in her ancestor’s footsteps and make a pilgrimage to World’s End to obtain the Eighth Holy Spirit’s treasure.”

The guards sprang into action at the sound of the disturbance. They held their weapons tight, ready for battle, as fear etched on their faces.

The room was filled with the crackling energy of teleportation lightning and as the guards saw it hadn’t fully dissipated, they lowered their weapons, relieved. With polite curiosity, they approached Nizemar and asked if the duke had teleported away.

Nizemar regained her composure and offered a few vague explanations. The group shrugged, seemingly unfazed by the bizarre scene, and exited the room, leaving Nizemar confused. She had initially planned to overpower them and make a break for it with the child in tow.
