Chapter 2059: The Overseer Shows Himself

In his current condition, he was on par with a sacred supreme. No one was his match in the Three Thousand—unless the overseer was present.

No, the herd of vicious beasts was also stronger than him.

The Three Thousand was an incredibly mysterious place that resulted in the deaths of even nihil powerhouses. If Lu Yun wished to change its great dao, he had to proceed with caution. For the moment, he remained standing in front of the mountain of blades and watched Jin Huo continue to scale it. Her life was in peril at every moment of her trial.

Whoosh!

A black demonic shadow formed in the air and charged Jin Huo in a cloud of demonic energy.

“Watch out!” The Disordered Empy—Sacred Supreme rushed to help Jin Huo.

“Don’t move.” Lu Yun stopped her. “Only she can do the deed. If we take action, the tree god will forever be trapped on the mountain.”

Jin Huo swiftly died, then immediately came back to life. She ignored the demonic shadow and continued clambering over the blades.

The demonic shadow struck again and again, killing Jin Huo again and again. Lu Yun’s stock of Resurrection Talismans was soon depleted. He waved another nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine talismans into her.

“ROAR!!” snarled the demonic shadow. It dove from the mountain and flung itself at Lu Yun. Plainly, it possessed intelligence and wasn’t a dead being.

“I wouldn’t be able to do anything to you if you didn’t come down. But look at this, you’re the one presenting yourself to me!” Lu Yun gave a long peal of laughter and pointed at the shadow, activating the Judgment of Life or Death.

Whoosh!

The retribution infested shadow instantly flew apart.

Most of the existences imprisoned here carried overwhelming retribution, making them as weak as paper in Lu Yun’s eyes. It was why very few nihil powerhouses had dared show themselves after Lu Yun arrived. They’d witnessed how his death art worked and understood how the Judgment of Life or Death killed people.

The demonic shadow was the guardian of the mountain of blades. Giving Jin Huo the Resurrection Talismans was cheating. Hence, the shadow had flown into a fury and come for the young man.

It would’ve never descended the mountain otherwise.

Jin Huo breathed out with relief and climbed much faster without the shadow’s interference.

Hummmm.

Emerald light flashed over her as she broke through from peak grand supreme to empyrean supreme. She was already the strongest level of peak grand supreme to begin with since she grasped the order of life. After experiencing death again and again on the mountain of blades, her fortuitous opportunity finally arrived and she naturally broke though.

After ascending to empyrean supreme, she bounded to the top of the mountain in one leap and flung her arms around the seated tree god.

Lu Yun relaxed. Everything he’d come to the World Heart for had been accomplished and he’d also managed to overawe the demons suppressed in this region with the Judgment of Life or Death.

“These demons will become demons of the world of immortals in the future. They will counterbalance those already there.” The tree god jumped down from the mountain with Jin Huo in his arms.

“Greetings to the senior,” Lu Yun bowed. The tree god’s replica in the world inside the Tome of Life and Death had grown into a towering specimen. But when the tree god walked down from the mountain, he instantly severed his connection with that tree and his karmic relationship with Ling Weiyang in the world of immortals.

The tree inside the Tome of Life and Death was now a spirit root that wholly belonged to Lu Yun.

“You really did it!” The tree god smiled at Lu Yun. The section of withered wood that he’d left behind carried the resentment of hundreds of millions from the original Hongmeng. He’d meant for it to help Lu Yun light the fire of order.

Lu Yun had fully succeeded and progressed to the step of rescuing the tree god from the mountain of blades!

The mountain of blades was a collection of sword qi from Quietus. It’d transformed into keen blades that killed untold numbers after being tainted by the demonic qi in the World Heart. Whether it was the tree god or Jin Huo, both were restricted by it.

The orders within the World Heart were too strong. No one could break them once they started operating; Jin Huo could dismantle the seal only if she climbed the mountain herself.

During this time, the tree god’s true spirit borrowed Ancestor’s strength to create his own soul parts and become an independent living being that could be separated from Ling Weiyang.

This set Lu Yun at ease. It looked like the dark empyrean supreme really hadn’t lured him and Jin Huo here to do them harm. He really did just want them to rescue him. Having been reborn, he was headed for the Infinite Deorc. The land of darkness would come under the World of Immortals’ banner before long.

With the Disordered Sacred Supreme and the tree god in residence, that also meant that the chief worlds were fully protected. Given that, Lu Yun opened the Gates of the Abyss and left with his people.

The demons imprisoned in the surroundings sagged with relief when the young man left. The Judgment of Life or Death was horrifying; it was as if it’d been made for entities like them.

……

After taking Jin Huo and the others to the World of Immortals, Lu Yun spent a very long time with Qing Yu and the little fox before returning to the Three Thousand. He arrived at Ancestor’s tomb again, but this time with someone else.

Diexi—Ancestor’s dao partner, Forebear.

She brought her empyrean crystal coffin as it held her past self. She’d been wondering who it was inside, but all was apparent now.

While Ancestor’s corpse had become a patch of existence, her body had stayed as a skeleton. Her remains were complete, which meant that she could become Forebear again if she wanted to.

“Forebear,” Jiang Chen greeted Diexi. His layouts of the secondary worlds in the chief worlds had resulted in three hundred and sixty-five Diexis setting up the formation of the corpse kings. It’d been done for her benefit, so that she could call upon her coffin of empyrean crystal.

This matter was also completed, thanks to Lu Yun’s help.

“Jiang Chen.” Diexi frowned slightly. A cold glint flashed through her eyes when she looked at him, an edge that swiftly vanished.

The reaction wasn’t because Jiang Chen had once schemed against her, but that he was a zombie from the nothing and therefore nothing good. He stood guard here for himself, and they’d once been enemies.

Although Diexi didn’t possess the same past as Forebear, her instincts were the same.

“So everyone’s finally assembled!” rang a resonant voice. A faint shadow walked down through the void.

“Dao King!?” Lu Yun’s jaw dropped when he saw the man.

“Not the Dao King,” Jiang Chen frowned. “It’s the overseer.”

“The overseer… looks the same as the Dao King?!” Lu Yun floundered to make some sense of the situation.

It was one thing to have a doppelganger in the world, but for two preeminent personages like the overseer and the Dao King to look exactly the same? That was unbelievable.

“Overseer? I don’t like that title. I am Jin, Che’s older brother.”

Che was the Dao King’s name.
