Chapter 86 Something Else Entirely

The urban jungle of California were mostly empty , except for the occasional flicker of streetlamps that cast eerie shadows on the pavement. Fir ran through the rooftops, the wind rushing past him as he leapt from one short building to the next. Despite the thrill of the moment, he couldn\'t shake off the nagging feeling in his gut.

While he ran, he was able to reflect on his current situation. It was clear that he wasn\'t human, but his movements were so instinctual that it felt natural. How did he become like this?

"If I\'m not human, then Evangeline isn\'t either," He muttered to himself, suddenly realizing her white hair and red eyes weren\'t just a fashion statement.

He hurriedly ran towards the bar where he had parked his car, his movements swift and calculated. He maintained a calm exterior, despite his urgency . He knew he had to act fast and get back home to uncover the truth.

Reaching his car, he smoothly retrieved his keys from his pocket and unlocked the door. He slid behind the wheel and turned the ignition, the engine roaring to life. With a goal in mind, he pulled out of the parking lot and onto the road.

With each passing mile, his resolve grew stronger. He knew that he was getting closer to the answers he sought, and that nothing could stop him now. His calm demeanor belied the fierce determination burning inside him, propelling him ever forward towards his goal.

As he drove up the winding road leading to Evangeline\'s mansion, his heart raced with anticipation and fear. The sprawling estate loomed before him, the dark shadows of the trees stretching across the gravel driveway. He parked his car and walked towards the front door, the crunch of his footsteps on the gravel echoing through the silence.

He pushed open the massive double doors, expecting to be greeted by the sight of the opulent foyer and the welcoming smiles of the mansion\'s staff. But to his surprise, there was no one in sight.

The interior of the mansion was as still as the exterior, the only sound of soft rustle of the curtains in the breeze. His unease grew with each step he took. It was almost as if the mansion was holding its breath, waiting for something to happen.

Ignoring the eerie silence, he made his way through the halls, his footsteps echoing on the polished marble floors.

As he approached Evangeline\'s room, his heart pounded in his chest. He paused outside, taking a deep breath to calm himself. He had to confront her, no matter how daunting it might be.

With a deep breath, he pushed open the door and stepped inside. The room was dimly lit, with only the glow of the moonlight streaming through the windows. The curtains rustled softly in the breeze, casting eerie shadows across the room.

Evangeline was sitting at her vanity, her long white hair cascading down her back. She turned to face him with her glowing red eyes in full display.

"I\'ve been expecting you," she said softly, gesturing for him to take a seat.

He nodded and found a seat, his eyes darting around the room. It was opulent, with plush velvet curtains, a towering four-poster bed, and ornate furnishings.

"I know what you\'re thinking," Evangeline said, breaking the silence. "Yes ,you\'re not human. You\'re something different. Something special."

"Wait, so you\'re saying I\'m a vampire?" he asked in confusion.

Evangeline shook her head.

"No, you\'re not a vampire, but something else entirely," she replied, her expression serious.

"What am I exactly?" He asked.

"I can\'t tell you everything just yet, but you need to trust me," she said, her voice soothing. "I won\'t do anything to put you in danger."

He hesitated for a moment, unsure of whether to trust her. But something in her tone reassured him, and he nodded slowly.

"Okay, I\'ll trust you," he said, still feeling uneasy about the situation.

Evangeline smiled, a genuine expression of relief on her face.

"Good. I promise I\'ll explain everything to you soon, but for now, we need to focus on keeping you safe."

"Keeping me safe from who?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

"You have abilities beyond that of a mere mortal," Evangeline continued. "You have the power to change the course of history, to make a difference in this world. But you must be careful. There are those who would use your powers for their own gain."

"How do I know you\'re not one of those trying to take advantage of me?" Fir asked, his eyes narrowing suspiciously.

Evangeline\'s lips curved into a gentle smile.

"Because I love you more than anything," she replied softly, beckoning him closer with her weak hands.

As if in a trance, he felt his body moving towards her. He approached slowly and knelt before her, gazing up at her with a mix of awe and confusion.

Without warning, Evangeline leaned forward and pressed a tender kiss to his forehead. He felt a soothing warmth spread through him, calming his doubts and fears.

He rested his head on Evangeline\'s lap, feeling her chest gently vibrating with a soothing hum. It took him a moment to realize that she was singing a lullaby, her voice soft and melodic, like that of a loving young mother. The gentle melody washed over him, carrying him into a deep and peaceful slumber.

Evangeline couldn\'t help but smile as she looked down at Fir\'s peaceful face, the rise and fall of his chest rhythmic with each breath. She wondered what dreams he might be having, what visions danced across his mind as he slept.

"Brother Fenrir," she whispered, her voice soft and melodic.

"What secrets do you keep in your dreams?" She brushed a strand of hair from his forehead, watching as his expression shifted slightly in response to her touch.

She couldn\'t help but feel a sense of protectiveness over him, a desire to shield him from the dangers lurking in the shadows.

But for now, all she could do was watch over him as he slept, and hope that his dreams were peaceful and free from harm.
