Chapter 187: I won’t marry, I won’t marry, I just won’t marry! _1
Ye Xingguang stood there, increasingly feeling something wasn’t right. Xia Yanyan was spoiled since she was a child and her downfall here couldn’t possibly lead to an immediate desire to marry. Especially when she’d be using state privileges. Ye Xingguang was almost eighty percent certain that Xia Yanyan would put Ye Junqing’s name on the marriage application form. It’d be out of character otherwise.
She left the hospital room absent-mindedly after the President excused himself.
Upon returning home and entering the living room, she heard Tang Zhou’s whining cries, “I won’t marry! I won’t marry! I will not marry!”
Ye Xingguang was left speechless.
Tang Zhou went wild in the living room, “I only want to marry the woman of my dreams. My first love, the woman I dream about. All other bastard men can stay far, far away from me!”
Ye Xingguang:
Tang Zhou was so upset he was about to explode, “Moreover, that bastard fell all the way from the top, penniless and still dares to try to marry me, a high-born and noble gentleman! Where did he get the nerve? I swear I’ll castrate him if he tries!”
Ye Xingguang:
None of it made any sense to her.
She found Ye Junqing, Ji Qishu, Mo Fei, and Fu Zhuo all sitting in various positions in the living room.
Ji Qishu was clearly trying to calm Tang Zhou down, “Relax! The state enacted this damn assignment policy to increase the population. Even Junqing, who got picked, had to accept Xingguang. What makes you think you’re so special, buddy? Just succumb to your fate.”
Fu Zhuo sided with Tang Zhou, “This allocation system has to be flawed. How on earth could Tang Zhou, a man, end up being paired with Shen Mo? After falling from his pedestal and unable to pay the single tax, Shen Mo had to resort to drawing lots for a spouse from the Civil Affairs Office. Shouldn’t he have drawn a woman?”
Ji Qishu looked puzzled, “I accompanied Tang Zhou to the Civil Affairs Office this afternoon to protest saying there was a bug in the system. But after checking their records, their system listed Tang Zhou as female. Dude, was your gender incorrectly recorded when you had your physical examination?”
Ye Xingguang was astounded, could they actually make such a mistake?
Everyone has to undergo a physical examination on their eighteenth birthday. She was scared that her health indicators wouldn’t meet the standards during her own examination, and was relieved when everything went smoothly. The results of the exam would then be entered into the system.
It was unfathomable that Tang Zhou, a fully-grown man, could accidentally be recorded as a woman after his physical examination. What a joke!
Tang Zhou was on the edge of losing it, ignoring Ji Qishu. He paced around the living room and raged, “Over my dead body will I get married! I’d rather be stripped of my political rights for life than risk losing my virginity for my first love!”
Ye Xingguang:
Ye Junqing sat on the sofa calmly drinking tea, not comforting Tang Zhou like the others. Instead, he stated authoritatively, “That’s what you get for not paying your single tax and getting chosen in the draw. You have to accept your fate. If I can, why on earth can’t you?”
Upon hearing this, Tang Zhou was almost in tears.
“I did pay! After you forgot to pay yours, Junqing, I checked mine to avoid forgetting in the future. I went ahead and paid for twenty years.”
Ji Qishu: “Dude, are you nuts? Didn’t you see the rule that you can only prepay the single tax for a maximum of ten years at once? Any more than that is considered resistance to the state distribution policy, and all tax paid will be invalidated. You, paying twenty years at once, is clearly expressing your dissatisfaction with the policy. Who else would they choose but you to draw lots for partners?”
