Chapter 209: Oh no, my big cousin, you’re so awesome!_1
Having the president as your adoptive brother is a powerful ally, even after he steps down from office. Given Yanbei’s prestige and influence, isn’t this better than giving money directly?
Before Yanbei could speak, Ye Tingnan excitedly blurted out, “Ms. Ye, if you can save my child, as of today, you’ll be my blood sister!”
Ye Xingguang couldn’t help but laugh, and nodded, “OK, deal.”
With that, she opened her handbag. In it was a ready-made regret pill, which she had cried out a few days ago and prepared to give to a destined person. For Grandpa Zhuo’s sake, she would give it to his great-grandson to secure his future great-grandchild.
“Here you go, big cousin.” Ye Xingguang was quick to adapt to the new family titles.
While cradling Ye Tingnan in one arm, Yanbei took the small blue velvet box Ye Xingguang handed to him with the other hand.
Ye Tingnan opened the small velvet box to reveal a silver-white sphere, which was as clear and lustrous as a pearl. “Is this the regret pill? Isn’t it just an ordinary pellet?” he asked.
Sitting down, Ye Xingguang shook her leg leisurely. “Trust me, I’m your savior.”
Yanbei:
Ye Tingnan:
Ye Xingguang ignored the way the President and First Lady looked at her as if she were amusing entertainment. She continued casually, “Big sister-in-law, prepare a cup of warm water for your husband so he can swallow this pellet.”
Yanbei and Ye Tingnan looked skeptical.
Digging out her phone again, Ye Xingguang threatened, “You’re really going to make me call Grandpa Zhuo again to vouch for me?””
“Why don’t we just give it a try?”
Reluctant to let his grandfather know about his family issues, Yanbei let go of Ye Tingnan and instructed, “Go fetch me a cup of hot water.”
“What if this pellet doesn’t digest after I swallow it?” Ye Tingnan had her concerns.
Yanbei said, “You’ve already decided to divorce me. Why care whether it digests or not? It doesn’t matter. If I die from this, at least I can make up for our baby’s death. Maybe then you’ll be able to forgive me.”
Oh wow, my big cousin sure is cool!
Ye Tingnan stared at Yanbei, “You deserve it if it kills you!”
But she went to fetch a cup of hot water anyway.
“Big cousin, after you swallow the regret pill, you have to concentrate your mind and think back to the moment you wish the most to return to. However, note that you only have an hour to change your fate. As for the outcome… well, it’s still in your hands.”
Yanbei gazed at the silver-white regret pill, and took the warm water. Furrowing his brows, he said, “I need an hour? I can’t take it just yet. There’s a state dinner outside that needs me to attend. I’ll take it afterwards.”
“Oh, you don’t need to worry about that. What I meant was that you can only return to the past for an hour. The past and present run on different timelines. No matter how many hours you spend in the past, it won’t impact the present. The moment you change the past, the next second, everything in the present will also change. Whether the state dinner will still be happening by then, we can’t be sure of.”
Yanbei understood, “Going back to the past to change my fate will trigger the butterfly effect?”
Ye Xingguang replied, “Not really. Based on others’ experiences with the regret pill, the butterfly effect it creates only tends to affect the user and the people who are close to them while having virtually no influence on everyone else. This is why I can sell the regret pill with my mind at ease. It minimises the impact of the butterfly effect as much as possible so that it barely changes anybody else’s life trajectory. The state dinner might still go ahead; we’ll see…”
