Chapter 37 - Father and Sister

More importantly, he was a trusted confidant of Qin Ming. Many provincial governors treated Song Qi with great respect and even sought to curry favor with him.

As Song Qi approached a particular office deep within the council, his expression turned reverent, and he knocked lightly on the door.

“Come in.” A solemn and commanding voice responded from within the office.

Even Song Qi, a man of great authority, couldn’t help but take a deep breath, straighten his appearance, and then carefully push open the door to enter.

The office was grand and imposing, spanning hundreds of square meters.

A middle-aged man with an austere, ancient demeanor and an overwhelming aura stood by the window, hands clasped behind his back, gazing down at the Imperial Capital. His expression was indifferent, his eyes devoid of any trace of interest in the world before him.

Upon seeing this imposing figure, Song Qi respectfully lowered his head. “My lord, there is news from the young master.”

Hearing this, Qin Ming slowly turned around, and for the first time, his expression showed a hint of emotion. Perhaps only Qin Xian, his son, could stir any concern in him.

“The young master has reported that the Arcane Source is now in our possession, and some events have occurred in Donghai Province. The Provincial Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Chen Beiguo.” With that, Song Qi respectfully handed a document to Qin Ming.

When he heard that the Arcane Source had been secured, a flash of excitement crossed Qin Ming’s eyes.

The Arcane Source represented the culmination of the Qin family’s efforts over several generations! Years ago, they had sacrificed entire legions to cultivate this source, and now it was finally back in their hands!

With the Arcane Source, the Qin family’s plans could move forward…

Qin Ming glanced over the document and quickly understood the magnitude of the upheaval his son Qin Xian had caused in Donghai Province.

“Excellent!” Qin Xian’s journey to Donghai Province had already drawn significant attention.

Qin Ming knew that several factions had sent agents to Donghai, and even the Regent’s government had begun to take notice. If the matter of the Arcane Source were exposed, the Qin family could be placed in a precarious position, possibly forcing them to act prematurely.

However, Qin Xian had managed to create a situation that not only concealed the Arcane Source but also set the stage for the downfall of Chen Beiguo, a feat that was truly remarkable.

This allowed the Qin family to both secure the Arcane Source and gain control over Donghai Province—a double victory!

Qin Ming calmly instructed, “Order the Imperial Propaganda Department to fully publicize the tragedy in Donghai Province through all available channels. Use this impeachment case and submit it to the Imperial Assembly.”

In just two sentences, Qin Ming had sealed the fate of Chen Beiguo’s political career…

The Void invasion in Donghai City could have been suppressed if certain measures were taken, but once the Imperial Propaganda Department began to widely publicize the event, it would become impossible to contain. The entire human world would learn of the catastrophe!

With the Cardinal Council endorsing the impeachment, the Imperial Assembly would likely follow suit. This would ensure that Governor Chen Beiguo would fall.

While the final decision on the governor’s removal rested with Regent Lu Ji, the overwhelming public outcry, combined with the pressure from the Cardinal Council and the Assembly, would make it impossible for Lu Ji to protect Chen Beiguo…

“Start considering candidates for the next governor of Donghai Province.” Qin Ming’s tone was indifferent as he issued the directive.

A governorship was a significant bargaining chip for the Qin family…

Song Qi spoke softly, “The young master suggests appointing Yu Feng, the Speaker of the Donghai Provincial Assembly, as the new governor.”

Qin Ming immediately changed his mind upon hearing this. “If that’s what Xian’er wants, then we’ll follow his wishes.”

Ever since Qin Xian had awakened his profession, Qin Ming had deliberately involved him in various matters.

Although the position of governor was important, and Qin Ming had originally intended it for another purpose, he was unwilling to go against his son’s wishes. He was cultivating Qin Xian’s authority.

Suddenly, Qin Ming asked, “And what about Li’er?”

Although Qin Xian was Qin Ming’s only son, he also had an adopted daughter, Qin Li.

Qin Li was 18 years old and had recently awakened an SSS-class hidden profession—the Angel of Death. However, this profession was highly unique, requiring the collection of Death Shards to level up skills.

Therefore, the Qin family had arranged for Qin Li to travel to the Land of Desolation, a notorious forbidden zone in the human world, known for being the site of a great war between humanity and the Void.

The land was inhabited by numerous undead and dangerous elite creatures, but it also contained many Death Shards…

“Miss Qin should be returning from the Land of Desolation soon,” Song Qi respectfully reported.

“Very well…” Qin Ming’s brow furrowed slightly.

When he spoke of his daughter, his expression lacked the pure affection he had for Qin Xian. Instead, it was complex, tinged with a faint and almost imperceptible killing intent.

Almost instantaneously, reports of the Void invasion in Donghai Province began to appear on all television programs and online forums across the Empire. The news that the invasion had led to the destruction of the Divine Revelation Monolith and the deaths of millions of examinees shocked the entire nation!

These reports and news articles subtly placed the blame on Governor Chen Beiguo, suggesting that his negligence and incompetence were the primary reasons for the disaster…

Imperial Regent’s Office

Lu Ji, the Imperial Regent, known as the Star River Sword Saint at Level 90, was the teacher of the Emperor himself. After the Emperor’s disappearance, Lu Ji took on the role of Regent, becoming the de facto ruler of the Shenlong Empire.

At least in name, Lu Ji was the master of the Empire! For the past twenty years, Lu Ji had maintained stability while continuing the Emperor’s policies of suppressing the aristocratic families and promoting the common people.

His efforts had earned him great respect and high esteem among the people of the Empire!
