Vol. 3 - Chapter 105.1 - A Side Story: Charlotte's Dark Leap

TL: Short chapter today, but hope posting a little early makes up for it~

This side story continues from here:

Charlotte’s POV

I heard an interesting story from a merchant that works for a trading company run by the Baron Campbell House.

She told me that there is a nun who can use her healing power in the territory directly under the control of the royal family, located south of the royal capital.

The territory is almost devoid of crops, save for the cultivation of the jasmine flower.

According to the report, a merchant who went to buy jasmine one day got injured due to carelessness, so the farmer brought in the nun who could use healing powers. When the nun placed her hands on him, he was healed instantly.

I was certain after hearing that story. Only those with light magic could use such healing abilities to heal injuries without leaving a trace.

"I will finally be able to get my hands on light magic."

◇◇◇

It’s strange!

Plundering Magic isn’t working.

I\'ve absorbed all the knowledge that my ancestors left behind.

The criteria for triggering it are all there, so why?

A few days ago, I arrived at the royal domain located in the south of the Kingdom of Findalia.

I wanted to verify that the nun I was told about by the merchant was truly a possessor of Light Magic.

In order to hide the fact that I was a noble, I brought a merchant with me who purchased marigolds. The merchant was different from the one who had previously told me about the story of the nun.

"So long, young lady. I hope you find who you\'re looking for."

"Yes, thank you."

Waving to the departing merchant, I took a look around.

The estate was even more dilapidated than I had imagined. There are only a handful of farms cultivating marigolds in the distance.

"Where is the monastery that I\'m seeking?"

The merchant told us that the nunnery was located in the mountains.

After walking along the road for a while, I came across a mountain full of dead trees revealing the surface of the mountain.

Looking closely, I spotted an abandoned building in the midst of the mountain.

"Could that be the place?"

Just as I walked toward the building, a woman who seemed to be a local ran past me from behind. She seemed to be in a hurry. What\'s going on?

The woman banged hurriedly on the door once she reached the building. A moment later, a woman in a nun\'s uniform came out.

\'What can I do for you? Oh, my goodness, aren\'t you Emma?"

"Therese-sama! Something has happened to my husband! You have to come right away!"

The woman clung to the nun named Therese.

"Calm down. What happened to your husband?"

"His hand got caught in a farm tool and he\'s losing a lot of blood! Please help him! I beg of you!"

"I understand. Let\'s go right away!"

I quickly hid in a nearby dead tree and secretly followed the woman and the nun as they ran off.

The nun, Therese, must be the one who can use the healing power that the merchant mentioned.

The house of the woman named Emma was just below the convent. From the shadows, we could see a man, probably Emma\'s husband, huddled in front of a farm tool, holding his hand.

Therese removed the clasped hand and revealed a blood-soaked hand with three crushed fingers.

"U-gh!"

I felt like puking but held it back just long enough to see what was going on.

A light appeared, and the blood stopped flowing from the man\'s hand, while his fingers began to grow back. Eventually, the man\'s hand that was supposed to be mangled was completely healed.

There\'s no doubt about it! That\'s Light Magic.

While some earth magic is capable of stopping bleeding and healing minor wounds, it is magic that mixes medicinal herbs to heal.

Only those with light magic can heal to the extent that they can restore a missing part.

I followed Therese back to the convent from Emma\'s house and stopped her just before she entered the convent.

"Therese-sama?"

Therese turns back, tilting her head.

"Yes, how can I help you, Miss?"

Now! I deployed my Plunder Magic spell. But, it was rejected.

What?

"Miss. Are you okay?"

I should be able to plunder any magic. So why did I get rejected?

Light magic skills? No, no. Light magic has no such skills.

"You look a little pale. Are you okay?"

Something\'s going on. The reason why I was rejected.......

"Sorry. I am fine. I came to see you because I heard you had healing powers."

"Oh, is that so? Is there someone who needs to be healed?"

For now, I need to approach this nun and investigate.

"I have a sick mother......, but she\'s no longer ill. I have just been informed that she has passed away."

That\'s a lie. Mother is healthy and alive.

"I\'m sorry to hear that. ......"

"I would like to pray for my mother\'s soul at the very least. This is a monastery, isn\'t it? Do you mind if I pray for her?"

Folding my hands in supplication, I made use of my special talent for crying on spot.

"Of course. It\'s been hard on you, being so young. What is your name?"

It\'s best to avoid using my real name.

"My name is ...... Lottie."

"Lottie, come on in. Let\'s say a prayer together."

I guess I\'ll be staying here for a while.

This nun seems to be a good-natured person, but this may take longer than expected.

In the worst-case scenario, I’ll have to delay my entrance to the Magic Academy, which would not pose a problem.

As long as I can eventually become the crown prince\'s wife.

Oh, yes.

I can ask my father to help me acquire the business association here. If I tell him that I want to study so that I can take over the family business, I\'m sure he\'ll give me what I want.
