Chapter 371 Turtle-shell Skeleton
The coral-like mutated plants around them had been blasted to pieces, leaving the area looking rather bare.
"What kind of weapon is this?" Lin Shen looked at the purple-red weapon being dragged by the Black Armored Centipede and could not recognize what type it was.
He had thought it would be some sort of sword, yet it wasn\'t; it somewhat resembled a mace, but maces generally have square bodies. This thing looked like a fine rod made up of bamboo-like segments, thinner in the front and thicker in the rear.
The thicker end was a bit smaller than an egg, and the front was as fine as the tip of a spear, about four feet in length, its entire body purple-red as if made of jade or crystal.
"Whip," Wei Wufu said.
"You\'re saying this is a whip? Do whips look like this?" Lin Shen reached out to grab the handle, feeling a certain heft to it but not particularly heavy, lighter than he had imagined.
"Hard whip," Wei Wufu added.
Ouyang Yudu explained, "There are hard and soft whips, with things like horsewhips and Nine Section Whips belonging to the soft variety. This one is a hard whip. In mythical legends, Jiang Ziya\'s weapon for beating gods was a kind of hard whip that could be used to directly strike people."
Pausing for a moment, Ouyang Yudu continued, "I didn\'t see any spirit inside it; this doesn\'t seem to be a Spirit Base, but rather an artificially created weapon. It\'s unclear what material was used."
Lin Shen handed the weapon to Ouyang Yudu and then turned his attention to examining the Coral Turtle below.
The Coral Turtle had shown no sign of life by now and was presumably long dead.
Lin Shen\'s gaze swept over the spot where the weapon had been pulled out, and he was slightly taken aback to see a skeleton revealed amid the blasted plant mutations.
"There\'s a skeleton below; I\'ll go down and take a look," Lin Shen collected his carapace to avoid causing an explosion that might damage the skeleton.
He landed next to the skeleton and noticed that many coral-like plants were growing through it. It seemed likely that the mutated coral-like plants had completely enveloped the skeleton already, and if not for the explosion that tore the corals open, the skeleton would have been entirely absorbed by the plants soon.
Clearing the fragmented plants from on top of the skeleton, the collision of the broken plant pieces did not trigger an explosion.
Contrary to Lin Shen\'s expectations, the skeleton appeared not to have decayed but was remarkably intact, with the bones all connected and no signs of disarticulation.
After removing the fragments and debris, the whole skeleton appeared as white jade, with translucent, tendon-like connections at the joints.
"This is the skeleton of a Nirvana Being," Ouyang Yudu and Wei Wufu also came down, with Ouyang Yudu looking at the skeleton and speaking.
"Are you saying this dead fellow was a Nirvana Being?" Lin Shen was somewhat surprised.
Ouyang Yudu reached out to stroke the white jade-like bones and nodded, "Carbon-based life forms do not exhibit this situation after death, not even Ascenders. After they die, their corpses will decay, just at a slower rate.
Only Nirvana Beings, having gone through the rebirth process of Nirvana, whose bodies lie between carbon-based and Base Variant Creatures, possessing characteristics of both, leave behind such Nirvana skeletal remains after death."
"Is this thing useful?" Lin Shen\'s eyes lit up.
The remains of a Nirvana Being could be something valuable in themselves.
"They can be used as materials. Generally speaking, the hardness of Nirvana skeletal remains is quite high, but their toughness is not good, and they can\'t be used for casting. They can only be polished and carved, so they are not very useful," Ouyang Yudu explained, pointing to the skull of the Nirvana skeletal remains, "You can look inside its cranium; there might still be Nirvana Remains.
That stuff is very useful."
Lin Shen peered into the skull from the eye sockets and asked, "What are Nirvana Remains useful for? What do they look like?"
"Nirvana Remains can be considered the life essence of a Nirvana Being. Normally, after a Nirvana Being dies, the Power of Nirvana within their body will naturally release and return to the universe. However, there are special circumstances where the Power of Nirvana isn\'t completely released and will congeal into ashes in a certain part of the body.
These ashes contain the Power of Nirvana and are the so-called Nirvana Remains. Generally, the shape of Nirvana ashes is irregular. But it\'s relatively easy to distinguish; if you see something like sand grains stuck together, emitting a faint glow, that\'s usually Nirvana ashes."
Ouyang Yudu continued, "For carbon-based Nirvana Beings, if there are any Nirvana ashes, they are most often found inside the head."
Hearing this, Lin Shen was somewhat disappointed. The inside of the Nirvana Being\'s skull was pitch black, containing something like coal ash. There was no glowing substance.
"Nirvana ashes only appear after a few Nirvana Creatures die. It\'s normal not to have them," Ouyang Yudu said with a smile. "Compared to this, the corpse of the Coral Turtle is the real treasure. If it was killed before Nirvana, then its body might still contain the Spirit Base."
"Won\'t the Spirit Base of a Nirvana Being remain?" Not giving up, Lin Shen picked up a petrified coral branch, inserting it into the eye socket, trying to push aside the black ash to see if Nirvana Remains were hidden beneath.
"The Life Base of a Nirvana Being has gained sentience. If it didn\'t perish alongside its master, it might leave on its own or stay to guard near its master\'s remains, becoming a guardian spirit. Given the current situation, its Life Base was either destroyed in battle or has already left," said Ouyang Yudu as he handed his weapon over to Wei Wufu.
After probing a few times, Lin Shen suddenly noticed a glimmer of light within the black ashes, as though there was indeed something there.
"There\'s something!" Lin Shen\'s heart surged with joy as he pushed the black ash aside with more effort, feeling the coral branch touch something round and somewhat slippery.
Before long, Lin Shen had pulled out an object that looked like a coal ball.
This object was about the size of a glass marble, covered in black ash, and occasionally parts of it resisted the covering, allowing strands of purplish-red fluorescent light to seep through.
Lin Shen took out a water flask, pouring water onto the coal ball to wash away the black ash.

Once the black ash was washed off, the glassy object revealed its true form.
It was a purplish-red bead with a honeycomb-like structure inside, each honeycomb filled with purplish-red fluorescent light, like miniature reactors.
"Reincarnation Ashes..." Seeing this, both Wei Wufu and Ouyang Yudu were taken aback, exclaiming in unison.
Wei Wufu even became articulate, spouting the four words in one breath without any pause.
