Chapter 439 Shye Crowley's Reintroduction
After all, Boken himself was quite the talented adventurer, securing a promotion to the main branch in just three years, surpassing even the likes of Luna from the Balkrow branch.
Only, he was fooled by Bernal and his men.
In truth, he regretted joining the Infernal Ravens Division, and although Warren Glacier was indeed one of the few adamantite-ranked adventurers produced by Raven\'s Blade, the man was recently promoted and was currently having a hard time advancing his career.
Unfortunately, one couldn\'t leave one\'s division for two years, and he was stuck with these trashes for quite a while.
Hence, he wanted to drag another talented youngster down with him.
Misery loves company, after all, and if he can defeat Shye, as per their agreements, he will join the Infernal Ravens.
As for whether Valenzia needed talented young adventurers like Shye to rise and save the region, he didn\'t know, nor did he want to know, and he never would care.
…Arriving in front of Shye, Boken acted as if he would use his skill, [Shield Bash Lv.5], before abruptly canceling the skill\'s motion.
He then used another one of his skills, [Taunt Lv.5], to make sure that Shye couldn\'t back down from a head-on fight.
Boken was a shortsword and shield user, and he was confident of making his opponents suffer in a frontal battle as he was adept in block-and-counterattack tactics.
Sure enough, once the skill took effect, the irises of Shye\'s eyes turned slightly red, confirming that he was now under the effects of taunt.
In truth, Shye could\'ve easily dodged the [Taunt] since the skill\'s range was rather limited.
However, to show everyone how much stronger he was than Boken, he decided to embrace the skill with open arms.
The [Taunt] skill allowed him to dodge sidewards, however, Shye couldn\'t take a single step back for ten seconds.
Hence, he had no choice but to engage in a frontal clash.
Which Shye would\'ve done anyway.
Slashing his sword diagonally downwards, Shye empowered his attack with his trusty [Power Slash] skill along with two charges of boost.
He planned to wow everyone with the huge disparity in strength.
As for Boken, the smile on his face only grew wider upon realizing that he managed to easily catch Shye with his [Taunt], thinking that things would be a mere walk in the park.
Activating another one of his skills, [Vengeful Bastion Lv.4(Uncommon)], Boken\'s shield gained the ability to reflect 20% of the damage it received back to the attacker.
He then stood his ground and confidently waited for his opponent\'s attack to land, all too ready to mock Shye after absorbing his blow and reflecting twenty percent of the damage back to him.
In Boken\'s mind, the heroic scene wherein he would stand firmly, utterly unfazed by his opponent\'s attack while Shye staggered backward after receiving the twenty percent reflected damage like some pathetic side character, would soon happen.
Unfortunately, his simulations couldn\'t be farther from the truth as immediately after receiving Shye\'s attack, he shot backward like a modern-day baseball squarely hit by the fourth batter.
He couldn\'t even hold his ground for a single second.
Heck, even his shield couldn\'t hold on and was now bent in the middle--utterly unusable.
"Puhaahk!"
Slamming hard on the walls of the vast underground training halls, Boken spat out blood, almost losing consciousness in just a single hit.
\'Impossible! How is this guy so strong?!\' Bernal inwardly thought in utter shock and disbelief.
He knew how capable the rookie they secured was, yet, the guy was sent flying in just a single clash.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
At this moment, the squadron leader started to regret his decisions.
Had he known exactly how strong and valuable Shye was, he wouldn\'t have allowed him to display his prowess in front of others.
Now, countless higher-ranked divisions would extend an invitation to him, making it impossible for the Infernal Ravens to acquire Shye.
[Congratulations! You\'ve earned 11,290 points!]
Earning an unexpectedly huge amount of points, Shye was inwardly shocked, prompting him to take one good look at his surroundings, with nary a hint of care about the reflected damage he just received.
\'Crap...I still underestimated the size of the guild and the total number of guildsmen who made it to the main branch...huh?\' Shye inwardly thought, realizing that he would probably be in a lot of rivalries here, both from young geniuses and jealous veterans.
Still, such a thought only stoked the flames of competitiveness in his heart.
Meanwhile, the poor Boken struggled to stand up, his knees wobbling due to both the internal and external injuries he received.
Yet, he refused to collapse, feeling that everything would be over for him should he allow himself to be defeated with just one blow.
He at least had to show resilience!
Activating his trump card, [(Dark)Stygian Rage Lv.3(Rare)], Boken\'s body started emitting crimson smoke.
Soon after, the irises of his eyes turned red, and scarlet vein marks crawled from his heart all the way to his face.
At that moment, Boken appeared as though he was a bloodthirsty demon, yet, there were no hints of craziness in his eyes, only pure cold-blooded savagery.
"Oh? looks like this Boken guy still has something up his sleeves."
"Shye Crowley is strong but Boken\'s current unsettling calmness slightly unnerves even me!"
Hearing the words of the adventurers who were stronger than him, Bernal slightly calmed down as a spark of hope ignited in his heart.
\'Come on, Boken! Weren\'t you the most talented adventurer Horkel City had ever seen in the last two decades?!\'
