Chapter 687 - The Fall of the Mayor
“Lets go together.”
“No need, you stay in the office tomorrow, there’s a high level meeting.” She massaged her temple. “You don’t have to do everything with me, it’ll just hold things up. I finally understand why that some companies expressly forbade any love between staff.”
And with that, she was as good as admitting to be ‘in love’ with Huo Yunting.
It improved his already good mood by quite a bit.
Their relationship had indeed seen a visible improvement.
“Is it, I thought we were doing fine? At work, or at bed....” He looked up as he placed the pen aside after signing the form. “You should get used to my everything.”
“Sorry, I’m still not used to it yet.”
Lu Zhaoyang took the document and turned around. She was tired and her workload was to increase again. She should be asking him for a raise!
At night, Lu Zhaoyang half-jokingly asked about the raise but was instead heartlessly humped over by a certain someone.
Huo Yunting smiled sinisterly, “I can’t give you a raise but I can still reward you.”
His warm fingers lifted her chin up, “And you’ve worked hard today, let me reward you once more.”
“...”
Lu Zhaoyang’s protest was immediately sealed by his warm lips.
She really regretted trying to go the roundabout way and swore not to bring up the matter of salary raise again!
She really could not joke around this man!
Lin Yazhi arrived home very late at night and trudged carefully towards Mr Lin’s study.
She did not dare go home and did not know how Xiang Jinxi had responded.
She was really afraid something could have gone wrong.
“Dad?”
Mr Lin was sitting in front of his desk with his back facing her. Only the desk lamp beside him was lit as it casted a gloomy veil on his back.
Lin Yazhi did not want to see a scene like that and turned on the lights. The room soon brightened.
“Yazhi...”
For some reason, she felt her father’s voice was very strained. What had happened today?
“It’s late, why aren’t you sleeping yet.” Mr Lin’s back still faced her. “Go get some rest.....”
“I seemed to have messed up today, did that Xiang Jinxi said anything unreasonable?” She tried to pry for information.”
“Nothing, but please be more aware of your surroundings when you do things next time. I’m busy today and a little worn out. Go.”
Mr Lin turned around and turned off the desk lamp, as he ominously told her, “Work hard from hereon.”
“I will!”
Her father was not angry and that allowed Lin Yazhi to heave a sigh of relief. She went back to her room in peace.
But soon, a heavy blow soon landed on the Lins.
Mr Lin was reported for accepting bribes and corruption. Together with solid proof, he lost his position as mayor and had their property seized. Within a day, a promising mayor had turned into a prisoner.
And Lin Yazhi had turned from a daughter of a mayor, to a normal working class lady who could only rent a place.
Thankfully Lin Yazhi was not into luxurious lifestyles and aside from being saddened by the fact her father had knowingly went against the law, she was not particularly impacted or showed signs of hysteria.
She held her chin as she sat on the sofa in the rented house, looking at information on the web. Now she needed to hire a good lawyer to help her dad.
“Mum, did dad really took bribes—or as it that I had caused him trouble?”
She did not want to believe that was true but it had happened just right after she met Xiang Jinxi. This caused her thoughts to veer in that direction.
