Chapter 246 246: The end of the South [pt1]

Rita looked Aurora right in the eye as she asked that question. She could tell that her partner was still not feeling alright but this was as best as that heated fever was going to get.

When the heat refused to go down despite both parties being exhausted, they both knew that there was something wrong.

And the only connection they could find between not feeling well and that fever was the presence of the abyss in this chamber.

Somehow, even Rita could tell that the abyss’s presence in this place was different from before.

“My body is alright. But there is a feeling of emptiness inside me. I might have an idea what this chamber wants from me but I cannot indulge it in its desires.”

Of course, Aurora knew. Rita was sure that Aurora had a sixth sense when it came to things like these. Somehow, she always knew what was going on.

It was like she had a connection with the abyss that Rita did not know about. But whatever it was, it usually proved to be quite useful.

And having known Aurora for a while, Rita knew not to ask her questions about it. Aurora would tell you if she thought that the secret was worth telling.

“Rita, you walk out of this chamber first. I need to get hold of that egg first before I can come out. I have a feeling that the egg will be a little difficult to convince to leave.”

It was times like these that made Rita feel like Aurora was losing her mind slowly. Who talked to an egg in an attempt to coax it outside of a chamber?

‘I have seen more weird and unconventional things in my life. This is nothing.’

Rita psyched herself as she stood up. She was not going to question what Aurora was doing and why she was doing things.

It was time to turn her head away from the weird and not think about it at all.

Aurora who watched it happen just shook her head before turning toward the egg and pushing her hand against its surface.

There was a life inside that egg that felt strong against Aurora’s hand. This egg was not a dud and had some substance worth looking into.

To be honest, Aurora had not sent Rita out because she needed to convenience the egg to leave but because she needed time to figure out how to safely extract the egg from this chamber.

Whatever energy that was circulating inside this chamber was all connected to this egg. There was a more than likely chance that this chamber would go ‘boom’ as soon as this egg was removed.

And Rita was only human. Aurora doubted if she would be able to survive such a blast of magic or not. But the risk of danger alone made it worthwhile to send Rita out.

Aurora picked up the egg very carefully but it was dormant in her hand. The energy that was connected to the egg shifted its focus toward her as soon as it detected her.

As a result, the heat that Aurora had been avoiding all this while came crawling back and tried to drag Aurora down in it again.

It felt like there were several hands on her body that were trying to drown Aurora in the pool known as desire.

But the coldness of the egg in her arms reminded Aurora of where she was and it broke into her mental focus.

Somehow, it felt like the egg was making a fuss whenever Aurora’s mind was deviating from its presence. Was it a sentient even right now? What kind of lifeform was in it?

Somehow, whatever it was, Aurora had a feeling that she was a part of it. She could feel the same energy flowing inside her as the one in the egg.

“If you turn out to look like me as well then people will think that I gave birth to you. I wonder how that would work out.”

Aurora touched the egg as she finally took it out of the chamber. The magic tried to hold her back and the door refused to open up.

But her desire to escape was so prominent that she felt the egg respond to her.

One second it was in her arms, the next it disappeared in a flash of light and a foreign sensation of being filled was felt in Aurora’s stomach.

But it faded away as soon as it came. The only thing that was left behind was the magic she felt and the numbness in her legs.

“See, I knew that it would happen. You took that egg in your body, right? Do you even have any idea what will happen next?”

Clove’s voice reached Aurora’s ears just as she looked up. Clove was standing in front of her with a look full of disapproval.

Aurora could even see Rita behind her, standing there was a warrior expression as she tried to break the light barrier that had been formed between herself and Aurora.

Was Clove an enemy or an ally right now? It was tough for Aurora to tell and her feelings were a mess whenever she saw Clove.

Aurora was still in love with Clove but Clove was no longer her whole world. There were more people Aurora had relationships with and considered important. She could no longer give herself to Clove fully.

“Are you here to take me back? Or take that egg back? I am sorry but it is too late.”

Aurora taunted as she tried to stand up again. But her legs gave way again. It was getting more and more annoying by the second to keep her temper in.

“I am not here for any of that. In fact, I am here to help you run away. I will not say that I am sorry for what happened until now but you needed to reach this chamber to activate your hidden potential and the purpose you were born for.”

Clove did not sound sorry and somehow that made Aurora feel better. She had no idea how she would have reacted had Clove come out and told her that it was all a misunderstanding and that she had made a mistake.

Somehow knowing that Clove did this all willingly made it easy for Aurora to understand why Clove had done all this despite it having hurt Aurora.

It was not like Clove’s love had faded with her memories coming back, but that she had a mission even more important than her love for Aurora.

‘Perpahs I blamed the wrong person all this time. The tower might have a hand in everything that happened but I don’t think that it is the real culprit behind everything that happened to me.’

This was the thought that Aurora had for the first time. No, perhaps that was just something she had accepted for the first time.

The tower had been an easy target for her fury since it had been a pain in her ass for such a long time.

And somehow, Aurora had not wanted to believe that Clove could betray her without any external factors involved.

“I don’t need your help. Your or anyone else help is not needed. Let Rita go and I will make sure I never see you again.”

Aurora tried to walk away but her wrist was caught by Clove’s hand.

The girl did not let go of it and Aurora could see Rita baring her fangs in their direction. Aurora felt annoyed as well until she felt something being shoved into her hand.

“You might not want my help but you will need it. That thing in your body will start to devour you until you don’t collect all the other divine cores and feed them to him. You were always meant to be the incubator for it and that’s why your body can handle foreign cores.”

That piece of information made Aurora’s mind stop working. She could not even think properly after what she just heard.

From Rita’s expression, it did not seem as if she had received the news as well.

“We are heading toward an era where neither the gods nor the abyss will exist. This world will finally know peace under one supreme power and everything will be reborn. So you just need to sit back and see it all happen. Now, why don’t you take a rest and when you wake up, you will be back home.”

“No, wait. I have questions-“

But as soon as she started asking, Aurora felt her body weakening under the influence of that magic and she went down.

The last thing she saw was Rita collapsing as well due to the magic and that was when she knew that Clove had been serious.

She was going down a path she believed all just for a chance to save this world from the abyss. And somehow, Aurora could not help the thoughts that popped into her mind.

‘Clove never changed. Perhaps the one who changed was me along with my feelings. Is everything my fault?’
