Chapter 86 85 - Back To New York
After receiving his new chest piece, Milo spent the last 3 days he had at the school, packing up his things to take back home with him in New York. Milo hadn\'t talked to his cousin since arriving at the school, she said he needed to start to learn how to live without her, claiming that it wouldn\'t be long before he was out on his own in the world.
As the last 3 days flew by, Milo spent as much time as he could with his friends who were still on campus. After the three days were up, the Acropolis had docked on the eastern coast of the United States, from here, he and Krista would take a train back to the station in New York where they originally left from, in order to come to the artificial island the school called home.
After saying goodbye to their friends and promising that they\'d send them messages, Milo and Krista boarded the train that would be making its way to New York. Krista took an especially long time saying goodbye, the pair had come to be quite cozy after watching the fireworks on the dorm roof. After boarding the train it wouldn\'t be long before the pair arrived back home.
Milo began to wonder how his cousin was doing in his absence; they hadn\'t been apart for this long since he had taken a week-long trip with his school during his freshman year. Milo was just hoping she wouldn\'t make a big deal out of welcoming him home once he and Krista arrived, like she normally would. It seemed like only yesterday when she had set up their apartment full of balloons, streamers and a banner for his 16th birthday.
Eventually Milo could hear the magical drone of the high tech train begin to slow down as it came into the station right outside New York City. When departing the train, Milo saw his cousin running towards him and Krista with a wide smile on her face. For some reason though, she immediately swept Krista into a bear hug instead of him. Both her parents were at work, so Corinna had offered to bring both of them home.
"Oh my gosh, I\'ve missed you so much," She said to Krista, "Now where is Milo, is he still getting his luggage?"
Hearing this, Krista gave Milo a funny look. He had changed a lot since leaving for the academy, so much so that Corinna didn\'t even recognize him. He had grown another inch or so taller, and because of his system, and his training, he had become quite buff compared to the scrawny Milo that she knew before he left.
"Umm," Krista said giggling a bit as she gestured to Milo who was standing next to her with a confused expression on his face.
Corinna then paused for a second, before she looked at the finer details on Milo\'s face.
"Holy Crap!" she exclaimed, "Who the hell took my Milo and turned him into this."
Corinna made a big deal out of inspecting every part of Milo, and even joked around asking him to pull up his identification on his holo to prove it was really him. Eventually she stopped joking around and helped the two best friends get their stuff into the taxi that would be driving them back to their apartment building. While on the ride back to their home, Corinna made Milo tell her what he had done to change so much. While the system had done most of the work for him, he told her about his morning training sessions, as well as the help he had received from his teachers, namely Mikael.
Eventually the three had arrived, and after paying the taxi fare and retrieving their things, they made their way back up to the apartment where Milo had been living ever since his parent\'s disappearance. His room was a lot less luxurious than the one at the academy, having only a bed and a dresser, but it was all Milo needed. He wished he could one day return to the house where his parents and he had once lived, but unfortunately it had since been demolished and replaced with a new home. When he was younger, he and Corinna would sometimes visit the house so Milo could remember some of the fonder memories from his childhood, but they were no longer able to.
Milo eventually wanted to build a home himself where he could create new memories with his own family, but first he would have to gain enough of a fortune to be able to do that. After setting his stuff down in his room, Corinna wanted Milo and Krista to tell her all about the academy and what they had been through so far.
Milo went on to retell all the stories he could think of from the past school year; him getting into the A ranked class, his retest getting him into the X ranked class, his in field experience, even the snow cone stand he and his new friends had run during the school festival. Corinna couldn\'t believe the words Milo was saying, seeing how happy he was now made her happy as well, it looked like the Milo she had known as a young boy who was always happy had finally returned. She could only consider his new boost in strength to be attributed to good genes, as his parents were both strong gatecrashers themselves before they disappeared, otherwise they wouldn\'t have been going off to the dungeon that took them away.
Back then however, gatecrashing hadn\'t become a well paying profession, which was unfortunate as they barely had anything to leave to Milo, and in today\'s society, where gatecrashing was considered one of the most well paying jobs, they would\'ve been rich, maybe even as famous as most celebrities.
Krista had also told her stories as well. She avoided any parts that involved Milo using anything but the reinforce ability however, as Corinna still wasn\'t aware of Milo\'s system. This would prove to be something Milo would have to try and hide while he was in New York for the summer, as if she saw him using the Ice ability she\'d wonder why he had that ability when she had only ever known him to use the reinforce ability.
Eventually she let the pair of friends go so that they could unpack and unwind after returning back home. Krista returned to her apartment and Milo went to his room where he unpacked all his things. Once he unpacked, he had received a message from Chris, Mark, and Zach, the trio had made a group chat so that they could all chat together while at their hometowns. Everyone appeared to have made it home safely, and Chris said that he was trying to convince his family to take a trip to New York so he could come and visit Milo.
Seeing that his friends had made it all home and were already talking about trying to come see him made him happy. Before going to the academy he had only ever had Krista, but he had a large circle of friends he had made while at the Acropolis for school.
After reading his messages from Chris, Mark and Zach, which included plenty of jokes, weird photos and memes from his buddies, he received a message from Krista that had surprised Milo a little bit. Apparently some classmates of his school in New York had been planning a sort of class reunion. The Awakened Academy wasn\'t the only school where students could go after their first two years of high school, there were many others, such as trade schools, schools dedicated to the creation of magical equipment, as well as normal schools, that acted as an in between for high school and university. Since Milo had wanted to be a gatecrasher he chose the Awakened Academy, and Krista had decided to follow him there to make sure he stayed out of trouble
Milo was unsure whether he wanted to go or not, but Krista argued to him that he should go and show off his new self. Milo was still unsure, not only would his old classmates be there, but some of his past bullies as well. Danny Li and his 2 goons, who had been killed in the rift that caused Milo to awaken his system, weren\'t the only bullies Milo had to deal with in high school. Along with this he knew that the minute they saw his name on the list they\'d be prepared to mess with him, no matter what he looked like now. For the time being, Milo said he\'d think about it, so that she would stop pestering him about it.
After answering Krista, Milo laid down on his bed, thinking more about whether he should go or not when his holo got another notification. Milo had been getting a ton of messages, and because of this he was getting a bit annoyed, as he wanted to relax a bit after finally being home.
"Who could it be now?" he thought out loud.
It turned out to be Maria who had asked him if he saw his placement yet. At that moment, Milo looked at the alarm clock on his dresser to check the time, it read 7:02, which was two minutes after he was set to receive his placement for his summer internship. Milo then rushed to check if the school had sent him a message and sure enough there was a message titled "Internship Placement."
Milo closed his eyes for a second, praying for the best before opening the message. He began to read his way down the message, "Thank you for applying for the summer internship program, blah, blah blah." Milo skipped all the way to the bottom of the message where it told him where he would be interning for the summer and seeing where he got placed he jumped up in excitement.
Next to where it said, "internship placement," he read "Incubus Guild." He would be working at the guild that had saved him almost a year ago from the rift, and the guild where Allana\'s brother was the guild master.
