Chapter 61

“Haah, our backyard is way too big. Running for 20 minutes at full speed, and I still haven’t found the end of it,” I said, looking at the waterfall.

“This looks like a good spot to get away,” I said, walking close to the lake. Crouching down, I put my hand into the cold water.

Looking around, I looked for any sign that people might come here. Seeing no evidence of that, I stripped down to my underwear and jumped into the water.

“Haah, this feels great. The temperature is just right for an icy fox to be in. Hmm, I wonder how close this water is actually to freeze over.” I said, swimming while swimming closer to the waterfall.

“Man, not gone lie, but this place is a perfect date spot. Got to tell Amari later about it for her and Zagan. Hmm, I wonder.” I said, stopping at the bottom of the waterfall.

Swimming behind the waterfall, I only saw a wall. No cave or any secret entrance, nothing only a wall.

“It is a lie. All of it was a lie. There is no cave behind every waterfall. The stories of Earth are all a lie.” I said in disdain.

.....

Clicking my tongue, I went back to the middle of the lake and started flouting into my own thoughts once more.

‘I am quite surprised and angry that Kayda is this careless sometimes. I mean, the first day we met, she went on and on about her being a failure, and she didn’t really try to deny being a pure dragon. Actually, how is she in the black ops if she can’t keep secrets like an upcoming war in front of a 13-year-old innocent child.’

‘You’re a hypocrite!?’

“Hmm, did I hear something?” I said, looking around the lake. Not seeing anything, I went back to my thoughts.

‘Whatever, my mind must be playing tricks on me. Like seriously, I am pretty certain she isn’t ready to see the ugliness of this world. We must preserve her innocent.’ I thought, clenching my fist. Hearing someone land near the lake, I looked at the person ready to pluck out some eyes, only to sigh in relief seeing it was mom.

“We have been looking everywhere for you!?” Mom shouted from the shore.

“It has only been 20 min, and I am enjoying myself,” I said, chuckling to myself.

“Yeah, but Kayda said you were looking for me?” Mom said, tilting her head.

“I was, but I needed to calm myself first.”

“Why”

“Not important right now. Why don’t you come and join me? The water feels heavenly.” I said, relaxing again.

“No, I don’t have time for this Kitsuna.” Mom said with a deep frown looking at the water.

“I see, okay,” I said, swimming closer to the shore.

“So what did you want to talk about.”

“Things,” I said, starting to walk out of the water.

“Where are your clothes!” Mom said, surprised to see my upper body.

“I can’t swim with everything on, now can I,” I said, grinning, seeing she had restrainers on.

“What if someone sees you.” Mom said, looking around.

“People don’t come here a lot. I already check for any signs,” I said, cupping some water in my hand.

“Fine, but get out. We need to talk about your problem.”

“Will do,” I said, flash step behind her, pouring the water down her back.

“Nyaa!” Mom shouted, jumping away.

“Haha, you just said Nya,” I said, laughing my ass off.

“That was cold.”

“I know.”

“And you were swimming in the water while it was so cold.”

“Yes, remember I love the cold. I am an icy fox,” I said, smirking. Taking a towel out of my storage and started drying myself.

“So what did you want to talk about.”

“Yesterday I was talking with Kayda and found out you told her about me. I was mad, but I considered letting it slide, seeing as you guys are best friends and you know who to trust the most. So, I trusted your judgment. In all honestly, I like Kayda. She is relaxing to be around and fun to tease. But today, when Amari and I were having some magic lesson with her, she slipped out that Amari’s elements are all race elements. Luckily, Amari was fine with it, so I came clean with my elements as well, but after that, Kayda slipped up real bad. She hinted that there would be a war in the future, and Amari caught the hint. That’s not right. It wasn’t a hint. It was more like outright saying there is a war on the verge of breaking out. Now, this was the last straw for me. I got mad, said somethings, and left. But I was too angry to be calm around you. Who told this blabbermouth of a dragon about me. So, here I am, cooling off.” I said, putting on my clothes.

“It seems she really did slip up there. I didn’t want Amari to know about war before she went to the academy, Haah. I will talk to her later today. But back to you. I understand where you are coming from but wasn’t it you who showed your entire squad that you are primordial?”

“Yes, but I gave all of them a suicide bomb. So I can kill them anytime I want to.” I said, shrugging.

“You did what?” Mom said, puzzled.

“You remember the first time I combined my fire and lighting. it was like 2 years ago.” I said, shuddering at remembering myself of my first magic explosion gone wrong.

“Yes, you lost your entire arm because it exploded on you.”

“Yes, after that, I did it again and found out after a couple of failures. I can hold back the explosion using my ice to coat it.” I said, making a small ice ball not even 2 cm in diameter in my hand with a smaller black ball inside it. Throwing it in the air, I dispel the ice making it go off.

“No way. but how?” Mom said in disbelief, looking at the explosion that wasn’t very big but can still rip a human apart if he was careless and it was close to a fatal point.

“How haven’t they notice it? Tsk, Tsk, who do you think I am. I just slipped it into their bodies without them noticing.” I said, smirking at her.

“When?”

“Apricot, I did the night of the torture while she was restrained and distracted. I actually thought about removing it yesterday, seeing as how innocent she really is. But I didn’t, in case something change about her. Sirone, I also did that night, but when she was sleeping. Yes, I followed her. She is also only a healer, so her observant skills aren’t that good. Brenda, I did when she passed out due to exhaustion. It only takes me a couple of minutes to do it, anyway.” I explain.

“What if it goes off on accident?”

“Remember, my ice magic is a solid object, so I need to will the ice to dispel to set it off. The only other way to discharge it is to use Kayda scorch magic. Yeah, I think that is the only other option.” I said with confidence.

I might be bad at mana control, but that doesn’t mean I can’t use my other elements to a certain extent at close range and with enough mana.

Using my ice is like walking. Although I can’t make small objects like string and chains, things like that are still out of reach, but coating something is still possible no matter the size.

“I don’t know what to think about that. It sounds so...” Mom said complicated expression.

“Terrifying, knowing I can kill people hundreds of levels above mine because they were careless and thought I was naive. I mean, the thing is inside them and have no defense against it. You also shouldn’t worry. The only people who have this in them are my squad members and Rachel. I will never do it to your precious people. I can anyways dispel the entire thing if I want to. The fire and lighting are still connected to my mana, so it’s no problem. I do need to touch them, though.” I said, reassuring her.

“Rebecca and Lily?”

“I only finish this thing like a couple of months ago. I anyways?like them too much, and I am 100% sure they won’t betray us,” I said, shrugging.

“That’s good and very messed up. But back to my point, I had at the start. Have you actually told your squad to keep it a secret?” Mom said, making me freeze.

“You know I can be a genius at so many times, but I can also be quite dumb,” I said, facepalming. Totally forgetting about telling them to keep it a secret.

“Haha, don’t worry too much. I already told them after you left.”

“Huh, you were watching us?”

“Yes, I was sitting in the tree, and I must say your katana skills have improved a lot.” Mom said, nodding.

“I am so careless. How didn’t I notice you.”

“Illusions, baby girl, illusions.” Mom said, nodding.

“Tsk, I am really weak against illusions, aren’t I. I hope I will learn to make or dispel Illusions one day,” I said, shaking my head.

“It will take time.”

“Thank you for telling them and sorry for my carelessness.”

“It’s fine, but please don’t do it again.”

“Now I feel like a dip shit at what I said to Kayda about being careless. While I did the exact same,” I said, hitting my head repeatedly against a tree.

“If your apologies, I am sure she will forgive you.” Mom said, smiling.

“You think?”

“Yes, get her some wildflowers, and she would be over the moon happy and forgive you.” Mom said, smiling.

“Flowers, why?”

“She likes flowers.”

“She does?”

“Un.”

“I guess I will go look for some wildflowers then. Is there any color she likes more?” I said, looking at her.

“Umm, white. That’s her favorite colors.” Nodding at Mom, I walked into the forest to look for flowers.

(2 hours of flower search later)

“Here,” I said, giving Kayda a big ice vase with a banquet of white and red flowers in it.

“What’s this for,” Kayda said, puzzled, taking the vase from me.

“It’s an apology about this afternoon. At what I said to you.” I said, rubbing my cheek awkwardly.

.....

“But you had the right to say it.”

“Not really. I was a hypocrite.”

“Huh?”

“I forgot to warn my squad about not talking outside of our squad about me. Luckily Mom was there to cover for me.”

“Ooh, I see. Hmm, I will accept your apology on one condition.” Kayda said, smiling.

“What condition,” I said, narrowing my eyes at her.

“You have to listen to one request of mine without question.”

“But that doesn’t sound fair. We both fucked up. Let’s make it like this we both have one request.” I said.

“That sounds fine, so deal,” Kayda said, shrugging.

“Un, I will be going then. Need to go beet up my squad again.” I said, walking away from a smiling Kayda.
